The Seventh Maidstone Fringe Festival follows on from its predecessors in celebrating the diversity of new and original music in Kent and the South East, and during five days over the Mayday Bank Holiday weekend, filling the county town’s numerous pubs, clubs and music venues with live acts from across many different genres.
Incorporated within the festival are a number of all-day events and dance all-nighters, as well as family friendly entertainment in in cafes and coffee shops in the Town Centre, with much of the music being free to attend. Many local venues and businesses are supporting the festival, and Clive Emson Auctioneers have come on board as the major event sponsor for 2017. One Maidstone are continuing to support the event, as they have in previous years.
Building on the success of previous festivals, the 2017 event will see a wide mixture of music in Maidstone, from rock, indie and pop-punk, through to acoustic and blues acts, ska and reggae, contemporary folk, funk, soul, dance and hip-hop. Artists already confirmed to play this years festival continue the theme of high quality, Kent And South East based musical talent, which is at the heart of what Maidstone Fringe Festival is all about.
Main acts already confirmed to play are: Glenn Tilbrook – the lead singer from Squeeze, New York artist and BBC Radio 2 presenter Nell Bryden, and Michelle Stodart from The Magic Numbers with her new band.
A host of Fringe Festival favourites and South East based artists are also appearing including: The Scorchers, One Day Elliott, TV Smith, Molly’s Bar, Ben Mills, Funke & The 2 Tone Baby, Esk Forte, The Dredgermen, Ben Russell & The Charmers, The Soundcasters, Petty Thieves, The Narratones, Clea Llewellyn Trio, The Lowly Strung, Lew Lewis & The Twilight Trio, Salvation Jayne, Ferocious Lopez, Flawless Carbon, Bad Pandas, Holly Henderson, Connor Noble, Rhonda & The Great Unknown, Oskar Vilcrow, Guru, Falseheads, Skinny Milk, Bamboozle, We Are Bandicoot and David James Rumsey.
Dance fans are catered for at The Source Bar, with a Defected Records street party: ‘Defected In The House’, featuring DJs Sam Divine, Sonny Fodera and Franky Rizardo and at The Social Chill Bar with their ‘Dojo’ night featuring Steve Mac, James Allardyce and Mickey J.
